Lens-Lille: Supporters descend on the lawn to do battle

FOOTBALL – Sad images again, a few weeks after the Nice-Marseille incidents. This Saturday, September 18, for the first time in ten years, the northern derby between Racing Club de Lens and LOSC Lille took place in a packed Bollaert-Delelis stadium. But the joyous party of this Ligue 1 afternoon was marred by the excesses of some supporters.

At half-time, dozens of Lensois fans of the kop located in the side stand actually invaded the lawn to go to battle with the Lille yard. The latter had started hostilities a few minutes earlier, LOSC supporters leaving the area which was reserved for them to go and provoke their opponents.

Before leaving their yard, the people of Lille had left already taken from Lensois supporters located next to them by sending them seats and other projectiles, angering the Blood-and-Gold Kop.

As during the infamous match between Nice and OM, the police had to enter the field to prevent a physical confrontation between the two groups of supporters. After the fans ended up return to their stand, police officers took up position around the field.

While the start of the second half should have been given, the authorities were viewing the footage of the overflows. The decision was finally taken to restart the match 30 minutes late and after a warm-up of the players of the two teams under police protection. “In case of overflows, the match will be definitively stopped”, warned the speaker of the stadium, asking the supporters: “Don’t be stupid”.
