Lenovo Tenerife already knows its 51 possible rivals in the Basketball Champions League – Deportes COPE Tenerife

It will be Lenovo Tenerife’s sixth participation in the Basketball Champions League, a competition it won in the 16-17 season and in which it was present three other appearances in its final phases (runner-up in the tournament in the 2018-19 academic year, in Antwerp; and Finals to Eight of Athens and Nizhny Novgorod, falling in quarters in both cases).

The list of teams that will compete in the 2021-22 edition of the BCL amounts to 52, 28 of which, including Lenovo Tenerife itself, already have a fixed place in the regular phase. Of those 52 squads, belonging to 30 different countries, 42 have finished in the Top 5 of their domestic leagues, of which up to 17 were champions. The qualifying rounds will be contested by 24 teams and four of them will get the ticket for the regular phase.

The competition system includes a regular phase of 32 teams divided into eight groups of four. The eight group champions will qualify directly for Sweet 16; while second and third will be measured against second and third of other groups in a play-in to the best of three games. Once the four groups of four of the Sweet 16 have been defined, the first two of each group will go to the quarterfinal playoff, which will be played in the best of three games; and from there will come the four teams that will play the Final Four in a single venue.

The draw for the eliminatory crosses as well as the configuration of the groups of the regular phase will take place on Wednesday, July 7, at the FIBA ​​Basketball House Patrick Baumann, in Mies (Geneva), in an event scheduled for the 10:00 hours, and that can be followed online through the #BasketballCL social networks.
