The State Congress approved the reform of the Health Law of Baja California and authorize the state’s public health institutions to perform breast reconstruction surgeries on women who suffered the amputation of one or two breasts due to cancer.

The initiative was presented by deputies Montserrat Caballero Ramrez and El Topete Robles, and is also accompanied by the creation of health programs and campaigns such as the so-called Tcate so that it does not touch you, aimed at the prevention and early detection of breast cancer.

The president of the Political Coordination Board and the Health Commission, Montserrat Caballero, pointed out that this agreement aims to sensitize citizens on the importance of increasing attention to this health problem.

He added that according to information provided by the National Institute of Geography and Statistics (Inegi), Baja California is in the group of states with the highest mortality rates from breast cancer in Mexico.

Mortality rate
In 2018, the entity registered 272 deaths of this type, in 2017 there were 202, in 2016 192 died, and in 2015 there were 215 women who lost the battle. At the same time, the national mortality rate is exceeded, which represents 17.19 deaths for every 100,000 women aged 20 years or older.

This decision of the XXIII Legislature is a reminder for Baja California women that they are not alone and that the government takes the necessary actions to contribute to their physical and emotional health, said Deputy Caballero Ramrez.
