Legend Myungbo Hong, comeback as leader… Ulsan Hyundai Command Tower

Hong Myung-bo (51), executive director of the Korea Football Association, makes a comeback as coach. Hold the baton of Ulsan Hyundai and take on new challenges.

Ulsan announced on the 24th that “Director Hong Myung-bo will be elected as the 11th coach of the team.”

In November 2017, coach Hong Myung-bo, who was selected as the executive director of the Korea Football Association and helped Chairman Chung Mong-gyu as an administrator for three years, is starting anew as a leader. This is the first time that Hong has been leading a K-League club.

Coach Myung-bo Hong is a legend that left a distinct mark in the history of Korean football, which is a self-made hit.

As a player, he experienced various football through the K-League, Japan J-League and the American MLS. As the national team, he competed in 136 games and played in the World Cup four times in a row from 1990 to 2002, leaving his mark as the best defender in the history of Korean football.

After retiring, he began his career as a coach for the national team in 2005. Afterwards, he worked as a coach and coach for the national team by age, coaching Anji Mahachikala (Russia), and then led the 2014 Brazil World Cup finals as a leader. Prior to that, in 2012, he was the manager of the London Olympics, leading the first medal (bronze medal) in Korean history.

The club side explained the background of the appointment, “As a coach with a strong charisma to lead the squad and put emphasis on’one team’, we have decided that he is the right person to lead Ulsan on a new start in 2021.”

Director Hong Myung-bo decided to make a comeback, saying, “I experienced everything that the national team, age group, and overseas league managers could experience, but I felt uncomfortable in one side of my mind as if I had not done my homework. Explained why.

“I am grateful for being able to contribute as a manager to the K-League that made me now and that the team is Ulsan, who leads the K-League. Ulsan is exemplary in all aspects, including performance and fan-friendly activities. I will do my best to become a human example.”

New coach Hong Myung-bo plans to take an official step by revealing his determination as Ulsan coach through an online press conference on January 7th next year.
