Led Zeppelin won the court battle. Their hit Stairway to Heaven is not plagiarism

Led Zeppelin has been accused of stealing the opening guitar motif of their big hit, Stairway to Heaven from 1971, from the instrumental song Taurus by Spirit.

Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant and guitarist Jimmy Page have been on trial for six years, despite the fact that Taurus author Randy Wolfe, known by his stage name Randy California, drowned in 1997 and was led by an agent.

They put it in the cottage

In one of the most watched copyright cases in the music industry, it was as much as millions of dollars that Plant and Page would have to pay as damages in the event of a court loss. They both claimed to have composed their masterpiece in a secluded cottage in Wales.

Page told a Los Angeles courthouse in 2016 that he had only recently heard the song Taurus. The jury then concluded that the passage in question was essentially the same as Taurus.

The other party, on the other hand, claims that Led Zeppelin took over the tune after touring the United States with Spirit in 1968 and 1969.
