Lebanon Debate: Mossad Fake Account Spreads Threatening Image of Beirut

“Lebanon Debate”

Hours after Israel assassinated the Deputy Head of the Hamas Political Bureau, Saleh Al-Arouri, in the southern suburb of Beirut, the first targeting of its kind since the July 2006 war on the southern suburb, a picture spread on social media from an account called “Mossad” @MOSSADIL on the (X) platform application. Attached to the phrase Beirut, before, i.e. Beirut previously.

This photo spread widely and caused a lot of confusion, especially since it carries signs of a serious threat about the future possibilities that this photo will be the last of Beirut before its destruction if Hezbollah thinks about responding to Al-Arouri’s assassination.

To determine the truth about this photo and whether the Mossad was behind its publication, Lebanon Debate sought the help of experts specialized in disseminating information on social media.

Hence, “Lebanon Debate” contacted the curators of the “Sawab” platform, which is an independent platform whose goal is to limit the spread of fake news and raise awareness about the importance of verifying information, and confirmed that “after research and scrutiny, it turned out that the account is fake, and that the official account of the Israeli agency is called” Mossad Career,” noting that “this account has stopped working since 2020.”

She explained, “This information was confirmed by reverse image search, which traces the primary source of the image.”
