Lebak Health Office urges the public to be alert for dengue fever

LEBAK – The people of Lebak Regency, Banten Province are asked to be aware of the spread of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) because so far this case has occurred in 25 sub-districts in the local area.

Head of the Division of Infectious Disease Prevention and Environmental Health at the Lebak Regency Health Office, Firman Rahmatullah, said that there were 375 cases of positive dengue fever and four deaths were reported.

He said the breeding of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, the cause of dengue fever, was related to the high rainfall in the local area.

According to him, effective prevention of dengue requires public awareness in maintaining a clean environment.

The community, he said, must work together to optimize the eradication of mosquito nests (PSN), including through closing, stockpiling, and draining (3M) used goods so that they are not used as breeding grounds for mosquitoes carrying the dengue virus.

“We hope that the community will hold PSN and 3M regularly every week, especially when the rainfall is so high,” said Firman Rahmatullah to reporters, in Lebak, Banten, Friday (1/7/2022).

Firman said that most of the community members who had DHF lived in densely populated settlements. They must cultivate a clean and healthy lifestyle (PHBS).

He said the spread of DHF in Lebak Regency entered a five-year cycle, with the number of sufferers increasing sharply to hundreds of people. In fact, the number of people with dengue fever in 2021 in the same month reached tens of people.

“We ask the community to work together to clean the environment to prevent dengue fever,” he said.
