Adrián Zendejas, 25, a native of Chula Vista, California, was announced this Friday as the new goalkeeper of the El Paso Locomotive, but he made his debut within a few hours of being signed, as he was the starting goalkeeper in the triumph of the ‘Locos’ 1-0 over Rio Grande Valley.

Zendejas was on loan from Minnesota United of the MLS. With him, there are now five goalkeepers that Locomotive has, including Logan Ketterer who is on loan with the Portland Timbers of Major League Soccer.

Zendejas, 25, comes to El Paso with extensive experience at the USL Championship level. The Californian made his professional debut at USL’s Sporting Kansas City II and helped lead the club to two USL Cup finals (2016, 2017).

Following their outstanding performance in the 2016 season with SKCII, Zendejas signed with their MLS parent club, Sporting Kansas City, where they participated in the 2018 US Cup, the year they eliminated Real Salt Lake with a 2-1 win. 0. Then against FC Dallas he added five saves to secure a 3-2 victory in the round of 16.

In 2019 and 2020, Zendejas was traded to Nashville SC before being traded again to Minnesota United, where he is currently signed.

“As we entered a period of uncertainty with many games to come and the transfer window closing on June 1, it was important for us to cover all the possibilities,” began Mark Lowry, Locomotive coach.

“Our job is to always protect the integrity of this club and to make sure that no matter what scenarios come up in the coming weeks, we are prepared, in control, and remain competitive every day and win games. We want to thank Minnesota United for helping us push this forward with Adrian and we are excited for what he can offer the group over the next few weeks. “
