The Bundesliga starts the new season on Friday evening with the game between Borussia Mönchengladbach and FC Bayern. The first main round of the DFB Cup has already made you want more, in addition to many a test match. The main focus is on the return of the spectators to the stadiums.
Many a supporter will only now have noticed how much the absence of fans on the football fields of the republic has had an impact. The time of ghost games should be over. However, there is no great clarity when it comes to the number of admitted viewers. It still depends to a large extent on incidence figures, which is increasingly going against the grain for some representatives in the Bundesliga in view of the progress of the vaccination campaign in Germany.

Due to the link to incidence values, the plans for the 1st matchday of the Bundesliga and the following rounds can sometimes change on a daily basis. As of Sunday evening, the trade magazine kicker for the first nine hosts of the new season summarized how many spectators they can welcome. With 25,000 fans, Borussia Dortmund would currently host the largest number of spectators in the stadium against Eintracht Frankfurt. Close behind were the matches of Gladbach against Bavaria with 23,000 and VfB Stuttgart against SpVgg Greuther Fürth in front of 22,500 supporters.
Union with 50 percent occupancy
In the other stadiums, the number of spectators is therefore significantly lower in some cases, but this is primarily due to the smaller capacities. It is well known that clubs with smaller stadiums are allowed to welcome more fans than clubs with huge arenas. Union Berlin is allowed to let in 11,006 spectators against Bayer Leverkusen, Arminia Bielefeld against SC Freiburg 13,750. It will of course be exciting to see whether all tickets are used. In the 2nd Bundesliga, not all of the available seats were recently taken at some venues.
