Murdoch’s son Lachlan, whom his father called “a passionate, principled leader” in the statement, will take over. He now becomes sole chairman at News Corp., and remains executive chairman and CEO of Fox Corp.
“On behalf of the Fox and News Corp. boards, management and all shareholders who benefited from his hard work, I congratulate my father on his remarkable 70-year career,” he said in the statement.
