Le Voyage à Nantes is resisting

In Nantes, art in the city is not an option. Since 2012, every summer, along a 12 km green line, new contemporary works have joined the collection, which is scattered in the open air in public space.

“This year, in the special conditions we know, by maintaining the 2020 edition, we want to show that art can win, announces Jean Blaise, Director of Travel in Nantes. We juggled with the possibilities, I believe today that the course holds water. “

Despite the crisis, the edition was adapted and above all delayed from August 8 to September 27. “The studies were carried out, the companies began to work on the works when the confinement arrived …” Gauge, distance, each will have a specific health protocol to accommodate the public “Under conditions that we hope will be relaxed by then”.

Here are three new stages of the route that could be talked about.

A waterfall at the opera

In 2009, the artist Stéphane Thidet had introduced a pack of wolves in the moats of the castle … This time, he will play with water. The ephemeral work imagined by the Parisian visual artist promises to be one of the symbols of this 2020 edition. Entitled Curtain, this huge waterfall will cover the facade of Graslin, the 18th century theatere century from downtown Nantes.

The waterfall will rise from one of the monument’s upper ledges to smash against the steps of the opera house, before finishing its course in a vast pool. “This gigantic curtain of water is a metaphor for the theatrical accessory”, slips Marie Dupas, one of the programmers in charge of Voyage à Nantes.

A bed on the Order

Once upon a time there was a four-poster bed, pink and marshmallow blue, abandoned by a princess and sailing on the murky waters of the Order… Inspired by the passage of time and the fairy tales he loves “For their universal side” and take it back, Vincent Olinet “Create devices with fragile and wonderful decati”.

XXL boots from the vegetable patch

The plastic artist Lilian Bourgeat, known in Nantes for having left a giant measuring tape in the yard of a real estate group, made plastic boots 3 m high, size 2000! This funny pair with two left feet will be installed in a giant vegetable patch on the island of Nantes, next to the Cantine du Voyage, which will feed visitors to the grand banquet. This XXL lasting work will soon be visible.

So, ready to put on the boots of seven leagues in Nantes?
