[Le chanteur KK est mort]

The famous Indian singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, better known as KK, is no more. He died on Tuesday evening at the age of 53 in Calcutta after suffering a heart attack. The singer reportedly felt ill during a concert at the Nazrul Manch in Calcutta. He returned to his hotel where he felt unwell.

He was rushed, around 10:30 p.m., to the Calcutta Medical Research Institute (CMRI), where the doctors could only confirm his death.

According to the Indian Express newspaper, KK felt bad during the concert. He complained of being unwell during intermission, but played until the end of the event. His health deteriorated when he returned to his hotel room. The concert had been organized on behalf of Gurudas College. The singer was in town for a two-day event.

KK had posted pictures of the concert on social media hours before his death. “Pulsating gig tonight at Nazrul Mancha. Vivekananda College!! Love you all he wrote,” he wrote.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was saddened by the news. “His songs reflected a wide range of emotions as struck a chord with people of all age groups,” he tweeted.

KK came to Mauritius in January 2016. He gave a single concert at the Swami Vivekananda center in Pailles as part of the KK World Tour Live Concert.

Greatly influenced by singer Kishore Kumar and music composer RD Burman, he was introduced as a film singer by AR Rahman in South India. Two years later, Pritam Chakraborty invited him to come and make a career in Bollywood where he made a splash with “Tadap Tadap Ke Is Dil” from the film “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam” (1999). He had won the prestigious National Award for “Tu Aashiqui Hai” from the movie “Jhankar Beats” in 2004.
