Lawyers from the Centro de Investigación y Defensa Sur (Cidsur) filed a criminal complaint against those responsible for the violent eviction from the municipality of Victoria.

The events occurred on August 1, after a group of around 150 people gathered in the plaza of that commune and proceeded to evict the Mapuche community members who had taken over the dependencies.

The lawyer, Sebastián Saavedra, representing five victims, detailed part of the crimes invoked in the complaint.

“An undetermined group of people broke into the Victoria municipality on the night of August 1 and 2, who, practically escorted by carabineros, they proceeded to beat a series of community members that were inside ”, detailed the defense.

In addition, Saavedra indicated that the actions of the Carabineros exposed their clients to an imminent lynching.

“They were literally exposed to being lynched in the public square. One of my represented ended up with his head totally wounded, with stitches, another of them was buried with a stick with nails in his leg, in addition to hitting him. Stones were received from the crowd ”, he assured.

The legal action was presented before the Court of Guarantee of Victoria, invoking the crimes of Cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment, public disorder, qualified damages, crime against public health, threats, denial of assistance and failure to report.

Regarding the crime against public health, the lawyer emphasized that the civilians who gathered in Victoria Square did not have safe conducts despite being in full curfew.
