Rep. Hong Seok-joon (Dal Seo-gap, Daegu) was the first member of the 21st National Assembly to be sentenced to invalidity for election.
On the 17th, the first criminal division of the Daegu District Court West Branch (Director Judge Kim Jong-il) sentenced Rep. Hong Seok-joon, who was charged with violating the Public Office Election Act, to a fine of 7 million won.
The judge said, “The defendant carried out a direct phone campaign that is not allowed under the Public Official Election Act, and the crime of violating the party’s primary campaign was planned and systematically targeted at unspecified constituencies, such as issuing 3.22 million won to the head of the women’s office.
He said, “The defendant’s behavior is highly likely to be criticized for violating election fairness.” I take into account,” he said.
Rep. Hong said to the reporters, “I am very sorry for causing concern to the local people,” and “I respect the position of the court, but there are many issues to judge, so I will consult with a lawyer to decide whether to appeal.”
If a sentence of more than 1 million won is confirmed after being prosecuted under the Public Official Election Act, the election will be invalidated.
Earlier, the prosecution ordered Congressman Hong to imprisonment for one year and June.
Volunteers charged with Congressman Hong were fined 800,000 to 4 million won.
