“Law Society of Ireland seeks bank records and asset information for Dún Laoghaire law firm with €1.7 million deficit in client account”

The Law Society of Ireland is currently investigating a significant deficit of €1.7 million in the client account of Thomas Montgomery & Son Solicitors, a south Dublin law firm whose assets have been frozen. In a bid to get to the bottom of the issue, the regulatory body for solicitors is seeking bank accounts and asset records from the firm that date back six years. While the society has collected many files, wills, deeds and other documents from the firm and has frozen the practice’s premises, officials are awaiting full information on what assets are available to clear the substantial deficit. The society has been informed that the firm’s offices may be the only asset of solicitor William Montgomery, and a court was told that some “minor issues” were still outstanding as of Tuesday. While some positive progress has been made, an omnibus affidavit concerning bank accounts and assets of the respondent solicitor in the last six years is still awaited.
