Lavrov spoke about the actions of the Russian Federation if its ideas on security are rejected

Lavrov does not yet know whether it makes sense to resume negotiations with the US and NATO

It is important for Russia to receive a concrete answer or counter-proposals from the US and NATO, Sergey Lavrov noted.

If the leadership of the US and NATO reject Russia’s proposals for security guarantees, then it will act in the interests of its own security. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a press conference, reports Interfax on Friday, January 14th.

“If our proposals are rejected when this happens … If this happens, I will be less pessimistic – we will, of course, assess the situation, report to the president. He said at a big press conference that then we will make a decision taking into account all factors , first of all, in the interests of reliably ensuring the interests of our security,” Lavrov said.

“I won’t speculate about how our colleagues in the West are trying to do it now, I consider it counterproductive. It is important for us to get a concrete answer or counter-proposals, if you like,” the minister said.

Lavrov added that if, after receiving a response from the United States and NATO, “it becomes clear that it makes sense to resume negotiations,” the issue of the Alliance’s non-expansion to the east will be the main one in the negotiations.

As is known, a number of talks between Western countries and Russia on security guarantees took place this week. In the Kremlin these negotiations are considered unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, the United States promises strengthen military support for Ukraine and impose sanctions against Russia in the event of an escalation in tensions.
