Launching in February, Redmi K40 Pro will be powered by Snapdragon 888

Since becoming an independent brand, Redmi has released its own flagship smartphone. The first model launched by Redmi was the Redmi K20 Pro (Mi 9T Pro). This was followed by the Redmi K30 Pro which was sold as the POCO F2 Pro in the global market.

Now, just days after the launch of the Xiaomi Mi 11, the world’s first smartphone powered by Snapdragon 888, Redmi also confirmed the arrival of the Redmi K40 series. Interestingly, the smartphone will be powered by the same Qualcomm chipset.

Information regarding the launch of the Redmi K40 series comes directly from the General Manager of Redmi, Lu Weibing. He shared a post on Weibo revealing some of the key features of the flagship smartphone series to be introduced, although he did not mention a release date.

According to him, the Redmi K40 series will be officially announced in February. Due to the post and teaser poster that says “Series”, it is hoped that at least two devices will be introduced, namely the Redmi K40 and Redmi K40 Pro, but there may be more models.

The reason is, last year Redmi released several variants of the Redmi K30. Apart from the Redmi K30, they also launched the Redmi K30 Pro Zoom Edition with different camera settings. Even so, Weibing also mentioned that the Pro version should be the “exclusive” Redmi K40 series model powered by Snapdragon 888.

He also confirmed the price, which is expected to start at 2,999 Yuan (Rp. 6.5 million). In other words, he wanted to emphasize that the Redmi K40 Pro could be the cheapest Snapdragon 888 smartphone for the time being the same as its predecessor.

Furthermore, Weibing also revealed that the smartphone will likely use “the most expensive flat screen” and a battery with a rating above 4,000 mAh. Since expensive panels are usually associated with AMOLED displays, we can assume, at least the Pro variant will arrive with this type of screen.

But it is possible that all devices in this series can feature LCD panels that have a 144Hz refresh rate such as the Mi 10T (Redmi K30S Ultra) and Mi 10T Pro. In any case, we hope to learn more about the Redmi K40 series through further certifications and leaks.
