Launch of Novocare.tn, the first therapeutic education website in Tunisia

The pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk formalized, on November 19, 2021, the launch of its platform www.novocare.tn. This is the first therapeutic education website dedicated to Tunisian patients.

This platform was developed to support and educate Tunisian patients, especially those with diabetes, but also to all those wishing to have more information on the disease itself and on nutritional health.

In this regard, Mehdi Ben Saâd, Patient Support Program Project Manager at Novo Nordisk, clarified that the launch of the “novocare.tn” platform is part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the discovery of insulin. He explained that Novo Nordisk has chosen to reach out to patients and allow them to access the platform from their homes.

« People are more and more connected and we have to adapt to it. The Novo Nordisk laboratory is a leader in the treatment of diabetes. Patients with chronic diseases, especially diabetes, need a therapeutic education service. Novocare allows the patient to access several useful and explanatory information concerning the disease, the treatment, healthy recipes, activities and many other things to discover. I invite everyone to go because it is intended for all Tunisians and not only for diabetic patients “, He declared at the microphone of Business News.

Mehdi Ben Saâd also highlighted the alternative teaching and explanation methods, the fun videos and the web series offered by the platform. “ Novacare.tn will soon include workshops, games and virtual reality content for children », He continued.

Several doctors praised the efforts made by the company Novo Nordisk and insisted on the importance of the creation of a platform dedicated to therapeutic education.

According to Dorsaf Mohsen, specialist in internal medicine and gerontology, therapeutic education is part of the treatment of the diabetic patient. Drugs alone are not enough and the patient should be aware of foods to be avoided or prohibited, she said.

« The doctor must intervene and get the patient back on track by explaining the value of a balanced diet. Therapeutic education in terms of diet, physical activity and treatment adherence cannot be overstated. She said.

For his part, Kamel Jallouli, a doctor specializing in diabetology and nutritional diseases, felt that without therapeutic education there can be no good results. He said it was a process that included not only doctors but also dieticians and nurses.

« Take the example of diabetics on insulin, they are not taught the importance of changing the injection point or site. After a few years, patients can develop lipohypertrophy. This can interfere with the absorption of insulin. It’s up to nurses to intervene to prevent this kind of situation “, He explained.

The doctor insisted on the spread of the culture of eating in reasonable quantities and the importance of physical activities. ” We can prevent diabetes, but we cannot cure it. Obesity rates in Tunisia are worrying », He lamented.

Subsequently, Kamel Jallouli spoke of the role of doctors in psychological support and the explanation of the disease to patients.

« Consultations are good, but they are not enough. The Novocare platform will help us in our work “, he said.

This has also been noted by Chaima Besrour, resident in endocrinology, diabetology and nutrition. She considered therapeutic education to be the first step in the treatment of diabetes. The injection alone and without therapeutic education will have no impact, she says.

« Unfortunately, most patients do not manage the disease well. They take it lightly or are in denial. As doctors we try to do our best She said.

Note that access to all this content is simple and does not require the creation of an account or registration. Just go to the web address www.novocare.tn. The website is freely accessible in French. An Arabic language version will soon be launched.
