Latvian Group “Sudden Lights” Prepares to Represent Latvia at Eurovision 2023

Andrejs Reinis Zitmanis, the soloist of the “Rīga” group, said at a festive event at the airport: “We carry not only our personal wishes and ambitions, but also the name of the country.

We will do everything to make Latvia’s name sound far and wide!”

When asked how the preparation for participation in the big competition went, the group members said that the biggest work was done on the performance. “We have a feeling that everything has been done in honor. Now everything is in our hands,” says the band’s soloist. “We have a very symbolically strong concept that we worked on to bring this idea of ​​light and peace to the audience.”

When asked if there is anything special that they took with them in the suitcase, the band’s guitarist Kārlis Matīss Zitmanis says that he has a camera with him so that the participants can take beautiful pictures. Drummer Mārtiņš Matīs Zemītis has his favorite hat with him. The soloist was afraid that he might not have taken something, but he is in a good mood, while the band’s bassist Kārlis Vārtiņas has his father’s cross with him.

The group “Sudden Lights” with the song “Aijā” became the winners of Latvian Television’s song contest “Supernova 2023” live on February 11, getting the opportunity to represent Latvia at the 67th international Eurovision Song Contest.

The group will perform in the first semi-final on May 9, where Norway, Malta, Serbia, Portugal, Ireland, Croatia, Switzerland, Israel, Moldova, Sweden, Azerbaijan, Czech Republic, Netherlands and Finland will also participate. The second semi-final of Eurovision will be held on May 11, the final – on May 13.
