Latvia and Finland will develop 6×6 armored vehicles / Article / LSM.lv

Representatives of the Latvian and Finnish defense industry have agreed to jointly develop and manufacture 6×6 armored vehicles specially adapted to the conditions of our country.

Latvian Minister of Defense Artis Pabriks (“For Development”), Finnish Minister of Defense Anti Kaikonen and President of Patria Land Oy Jusi Jarvinen on Thursday signed an agreement on research and development of a common 6×6 armored vehicle system. The agreement envisages the development of 6×6 vehicles manufactured by Patria Land Oy, which will perform the functions of moving and commanding soldiers.

The research phase is scheduled to end at the end of 2021, after which partner countries will be able to start negotiations on the purchase of new 6×6 armored vehicles. The first deliveries of new armored vehicles could take place already in 2021.

“This project is for a decade, because we can not produce these machines in one year. If the quality is adequate and the way we and the NAF want to see, then it will be not only for the mechanized brigade, but also for four National Guard brigades, which means that “Latvia would need several hundred such machines,” said Pabriks.

The total value of the armored car development contract is approximately 7.3 million euros, and its costs will be covered equally by Latvia and Finland.
