Fandakova: Stronger measures are needed in Sofia – Society

The situation in Sofia undoubtedly requires the imposition of tougher restrictive measures. This was stated by the mayor of Sofia Yordanka Fandakova, who took part in the regular briefing of NIGHT.

We report a 35% increase in hospitalizations over the last 10 days. There are currently over 2,100 patients there. During the November wave, we achieved these figures on November 30 with 2,264 patients, said the mayor of Sofia.

At the same time, 36% is the growth of people in need of intensive care. This involves a large number of specialists and prevents the establishment of additional hospital beds, she added.

Growth has also been reported in children who become infected with COVID-19 and need hospital treatment.

“For three days now, the number of emergency calls has been extremely high,” Fandakova stressed.

The financial support measure for mothers who stay at home to look after their children continues to operate, she reminded. Individual activities with psychologists will be allowed for children who need it. The measure for people on unpaid leave, who can receive compensation in the amount of 75% of their salary, continues. The covid-offices in 9 municipal DCCs in Sofia continue to work, where people can take a free test so as not to overburden the hospitals.

“I know how difficult the decision is and that it affects everyone. We tried to do everything for students and children in kindergartens. Businesses are also affected. We all need to make every effort, hopefully for the last time this season to deal with the situation. “Psychologists and specialists will work because it is very important not to interrupt their work,” she added.

Fandakova will propose an extension of distance learning specifically for Sofia and for April 1st and 2nd, which remain uncovered by national measures, which will take effect on Monday, March 22nd.
