Latino stabbed employee while fighting at Chase Bank agency in New York; seriously injured

Jorge Santiago was arrested last night on suspicion of stabbing a security employee in the neck during a dispute at a Chase Bank headquarters on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, leaving him seriously injured.

Santiago, 34, was taken into custody by the NYPD’s warrant squad at Einstein Loop in the Bronx at 12:30 a.m. Saturday in connection with the incident that happened yesterday shortly after 9 am, inside the lobby of the Chase Bank on East 86th Street near 2nd Av.

The suspect fled after the attack. Supposedly had two knives at the time of his arrest, but it was not immediately known if the weapons were the same ones used at the bank. Although he was arrested in the Bronx, Santiago lives on 96th Street on the Upper East Side, about 10 blocks from the crime scene, according to New York Post.

He was accused of attempted murder, assault criminal possession of a weapon. In April 2013, Santiago was arrested for stabbing another man in the Bronx face, the sources said.

According to the NYPD, yesterday the suspect showed up at the bank before they opened and first argued with the security guard because he demanded to be allowed in, but was told that he would have to wait because the place was not yet operational. Then when he saw the workers enter the bank, he was furious, thinking they were customers.

The attacker returned later when he opened the bank, met with an employee and was furious again when told that the services he needed could not be performed in person and had to be handled over the phone. At that point, the suspect began to get upset and the bank manager asked him to leave, but before leaving the premises he stabbed the security guard in the lobby.

The injured employee was hospitalized in serious condition at Weill Cornell Medical Center, but was listed in stable condition as of today.

In a similar episode, last summer Mexican Miguel Solorzano miraculously survived after being attacked with an ax while using a Chase Bank ATM in Lower Manhattan.
