Moises Caicedo is perhaps the Premier League’s most sought-after player in this January window. Liverpool had been linked with him for a long time, but when the window opened it seemed pretty clear that the Reds were not in the race for him after all, with the sums that have been mentioned.
Earlier this week, Chelsea had a £55m bid rejected. On Friday, a £60m bid from Arsenal was also rejected, following reports on Wednesday night that Brighton would now demand £100m to offload him in this window.
Roberto De Zerbi had to spend a lot of time at the press conference before the meeting with Liverpool talking about Caicedo, and that he felt that the best thing for the player was to stay at the club until the end of the season. That’s not how it looks like it’s going…

Late Friday night, the player himself posted this announcement on Instagram:
“I am grateful to Mr Bloom and Brighton for giving me the opportunity to come to the Premier League and I feel I have always done my best for them. I always play football with a smile and with my heart. I am the youngest of ten siblings and come from a poor upbringing in Santa Domingo, Ecuador. My dream has always been to become the most decorated player in Ecuador’s history,” he writes.
It has been expected that Arsenal will come back with a new and improved bid, but that was not confirmed when Caicedo posted his message. If the content is correct, he will cost more than what Brighton received for Marc Cucurella from Chelsea last summer. He cost £63 million.
“I am proud to be able to offer Brighton a record transfer fee, which will give them the opportunity to reinvest and help the club continue to succeed. The supporters have taken me into their hearts and I will always have them in my heart, so I hope they can understand why I want to take this amazing opportunity,” Caicedo writes.
Whether there will be a transfer or not, it seems very clear what the player wants – and now the question is whether he has his mind in the right place to play against Liverpool in Sunday’s game – whether he is still a Brighton player then…
