Last time going out: unrest in Drachten, ‘cops pelted with fireworks’ Inland

Loud shouting and arguing on the last catering evening on the Kaden in Drachten. Many people took it as long as they could, but at midnight the guests were kicked out of the bars and discotheque. Several hundred partygoers then lingered in the street. Arguments and blows were said to have arisen in various places. The police arrived en masse. At least two people have been arrested.

A police officer was bitten in the arm by a police dog. Images of it are circulating on social media. The policeman had to be taken to hospital. It is unclear how he is doing. The police and an ambulance were pelted with fireworks, reports a press photographer.

It also remained unsettled for some time in the Zijdstraat in Aalsmeer. The police arrived on the scene with several units and service dogs.

Earlier in the evening, five suspects were arrested in The Hague during a noise demonstration. Two detainees have been sent home, a spokeswoman for the Hague police reported, while three others were detained longer.

The demonstration was held at the Ministry of Justice and Security on Turfmarkt, where the corona press conference took place. The demonstrators wanted to disrupt it. The ME moved through the city to disperse protesters.
