Last Service at Kiev-Pechersk Lavra Draws Several Thousand Orthodox Followers: EADaily

Several thousand people came to today’s Sunday service in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, the temples of which, according to the instructions of the authorities, the church should leave already on March 29. The liturgy was served by the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine.

Earlier, the website of the Lavra reported that Sunday services could be held in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra on March 26 for the last time.

“A strong prayer resounds in the holy monastery. The world lives not by talking, but by prayers. I ask you, brothers and sisters, to pray for the brethren, so that they can carry out their ministry here and offer up their prayers in the future.” Onufry turned to the Orthodox.

As reported EADaily earlier the viceroy of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, Metropolitan of Vyshgorod and Chernobyl Pavel (Lebed), in his video message, said that the clergy and monks of the Lavra would not comply with the demand of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine and the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra Reserve to vacate building No. 34, because it is illegal.

On March 10, the National Historical and Cultural Reserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra” sent a letter to the monastery, in which it said that from March 29, 2023, the lease agreement concluded in 2013 would be terminated and, accordingly, “the administration of the reserve demands to vacate all the premises that were transferred to the monastery under the specified agreement.
