Authorities in Japan have called for the evacuation of tens of thousands of people in parts of the western part of the country due to unprecedented levels of torrential rain in recent days and increased the risk of floods and landslides, AFP reported, quoted by BNR.
Rainfall is expected to continue for several days in much of the country.
In the southern prefecture of Nagasaki, two houses were hit by a landslide – it is believed that about 50-year-old woman died in the accident.
Hiroshima has been declared the highest level of flood danger. Nearly 70,000 people are subject to optional evacuation there.
Meanwhile, at least 21 people have been reported killed in heavy rains in central Chinese province of Hebei. After weeks of record floods, the area is in chaos.
China has been in the grip of unprecedented rainfall in recent months, which experts say will become more common due to global warming.
