Lanzarote is left without a Canarian Police base | BE Lanzarote

The Canary Islands Police will only have permanent detachments in Tenerife and Gran Canaria, since a proposal from the PP to create one in Lanzarote has been rejected and this party opposed the creation of this body in all the islands once the public offer of employment needed.

The deputy of the Popular group Astrid Pérez, mayor of Arrecife, defended the proposition not of law by which it was requested to create a permanent detachment of the Canarian Police in Lanzarote due to the increase in population, as well as tourists and immigration.

During her speech, Astrid Pérez insisted that in Lanzarote there has been an increase in complaints of insecurity, as well as sexist violence, crimes and theft, and asked if perhaps the citizens of that island do not have the right to be watched for your safety.

Astrid Pérez rejected the amendment of the groups that support the government of the Canary Islands (Socialista, Sí Podemos Canarias, Nueva Canarias and ASG) to create permanent detachments in all the islands once the public offer of employment is approved, since she believed that it was about a proposal “to do nothing” and demanded to build a Canary from the reality of each island.

The deputy of the Gomera Socialist Group (ASG) Melodie Mendoza acknowledged that all the islands need the presence of the Canarian Police and after recalling that in El Hierro there is no National Police presence, she proposed creating detachments on all the islands.

María del Río, from Sí Podemos Canarias, and Luis Campos, from Nueva Canarias, and Pedro Viera, from the PSOE, criticized that the increase in tourists and immigrants was related to the increase in crime in the explanatory statement.

María del Río said that she would support the PP proposal with another explanatory statement, while Luis Campos affirmed that it is unfortunate to link tourism and immigration with an increase in insecurity, and Pedro Viera pointed out that at first he thought that the non-law proposal was of VOX.

Pedro Viera believed that it was a proposal to dispute the political spectrum with the extreme right, and Astrid Pérez accused the PSOE deputy of verbally attacking her.

The deputy of the Mixed group Ricardo Fernández de la Puente, from Ciudadanos, has considered the request of the Popular group fair and recalled that the regional government has spoken of reaching 300 members of the Canary Police, and advocated because in all the islands have permanent detachments.

The deputy of the Nationalist group (CC-PNC-AHI) Jesús Machín, after the socialist Pedro Viera criticized CC for supporting the extreme right, asked the representative of the PSOE in the hands of whom his party has placed the Presidency of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the City Council of Arrecife, with the PP.

Jesús Machín stressed that the explanatory statement is not voted on, with which the Nationalist group does not agree, and therefore his formation would vote in favor because in Lanzarote a detachment of the Canarian Police is “needed” because insecurity has increased citizen.
