Lancia Delta can return thanks to DS 4 – Mondo Auto

When Stellantis announced a premium future for Lancia, with the possibility of a long-awaited relaunch, the many fans of the historic Italian brand immediately thought of a return to the road of the legendary Lancia Delta, one of the most popular models of the Italian car manufacturer. However, the forbidden dream could turn into reality in the not too distant future: the arrival of the new DS 4 in fact it could open the doors to a return of the Delta, precisely by virtue of its positioning in premium segment alongside Alfa Romeo and DS and of recently announced synergies involving the three brands.

Napolitano: “Lancia looks to the future with optimism and passion”

The collaboration between the young French brand and the historic Italian brand could bring to the road a model that exploits the heritage and tradition of Lancia Delta, drawing on PSA’s technological knowledge, in particular with regard to on-board technology and electrification. In fact, a return to this model could only take place by thinking already in a sustainable key and therefore it could immediately take off a version of the Lancia Delta plug-in hybrid high performance, perhaps with a powertrain close to 300 hp and a range of at least 50 km. In this way, alongside the production car, we could also think about the development of a variant that can compete in the World Rally Championship. Only a utopia at the moment but what is certain is that Lancia will be revitalized.

The Stratos appearance behind Carlos Tavares during the press conference for the presentation of Stellantis it would therefore not be a coincidence but a small clue to the desire to focus on the most glorious brands, perhaps bringing to life models with unique charm and tradition. In that image there was also a Lancia Delta, a detail that has escaped few and which would indicate the unequivocal desire to develop a new generation on the same platform as the DS 4 but which still remains faithful to the stylistic language of the Italian brand and versions that have been more appreciated over the years.
