Lady Gaga in talks to join Joaquin Phoenix

The artist would join the sequel to the film released in 2019, which already has an official title: Folie à Deux.

The American singer is in initial talks with Warner Bros. to join the main cast of the sequel to Joker, a film that starred Joaquin Phoenix in 2019 and that earned him the Oscar for Best Actor. Now, the interpreter will return in the skin of Arthur Fleck and rumors suggest that Gaga would be his love bet: the clown princess of crime and chaos, Harley Quinn (who has so far been played by Margot Robbie).

At the moment, it is unknown if Joker: Folie à Deux (in Spanish, Guasón: Locura de dos) will include this female character on the screen again. About its plot, there are still no official details. What is known is that Todd Phillips will return as director and Scott Silver as screenwriter alongside the filmmaker himself.

The first installment featured Fleck as a mentally challenged comedian who gradually creates a facet of an iconic villain. This production was very well received, with positive reviews, and grossed US$1,074,251,311. It also won two Academy Awards: Best Actor for Joaquin Phoenix and Best Original Score.

That is why, with the inclusion of Gaga in the cast, rumors suggest that this second part would already have Arthur as the popular Gotham City villain and his partner in crime, Harley Quinn.

This antiheroine is a character from DC Comics who, in principle, is the psychiatrist of Arkham Asylum. But her life takes an unexpected turn when she meets Arthur Fleck, aka Joker, and she falls in love with her. She is so fascinated by this patient that she helps him escape from the mental institution and then becomes a villain like him.

The character has already been portrayed on screen for Suicide Squad (2016), and subsequently for Birds of Prey (2020) and The Suicide Squad (2021). In all three installments, it was Margot Robbie who put herself in Quinn’s shoes.

In addition, according to US media mention, the film could have musical parts, so it is not strange to think of the interpreter of Born This Way as an option.

Gaga has broken into the film industry by starring in A Star is Born, a musical drama she co-starred with performer/director Bradley Cooper, which was also produced by Phillips. She later played Patrizia Reggiani in House of Gucci, an MGM and United Artists Releasing production. While the most recent project of hers was for Top Gun: Maverick, in which she collaborated with the song Hold My Hand.
