Studying the intricacies of savoir-vivre with the introverted tutor Enrico has an entirely unexpected effect on her. “La Dolce Rita” aka Simone Thomalla learns more than just good manners in Axel de Roche’s romantic comedy from Michael Roll. Rita Schuhmacher (Simone Thomalla) is natural, unforced and still single. The men really should be fighting for her, but thanks to her anti-authoritarian upbringing, Rita wears her heart on her sleeve and is usually a tad too spontaneous. Stiff etiquette and polished manners are alien to her – which unexpectedly becomes a problem when Rita falls in love with Paul von Saldern (Steffen Wink), a dapper young lawyer from the best family, of all people. Worlds collide when Paul formally wants to present Rita to his bourgeois parents. With her flashy outfit and her flippant remarks, Rita is a big hit at the elegant dinner. Especially her handling of the lobster tongs turns into a fiasco. But she doesn’t give up that easily, especially since Paul finally proposes to her. Without further ado, she signs up with her best friend Jenny (Dana Golombek) for an exclusive “behaviour seminar” on Lake Como. While Jenny is looking for a good match, Rita promptly clashes with the introverted seminar leader Enrico Corsini (Michael Roll). Its elegant inaccessibility simply drives the temperament bundle to lividness. Rita gets along wonderfully with Enrico’s 12-year-old son Carlo (Patrick Kostya). But over time she realizes that behind the cool facade of the single father hides an interesting and sensitive man who has more to offer than just good manners. And Enrico slowly discovers that there are things he can learn from the unconventional Rita. Then Paul unexpectedly comes to visit. As events unfold, Rita is faced with a decision that requires more than good manners. The romantic comedy “La Dolce Rita” plays with etiquette, style, good manners and bad timing – with Simone Thomalla and Michael Roll as a very different couple who slip on the slippery floor of high society.
