The Covid-19 crisis has just claimed two new victims in the hotel and catering sector in Brussels. According to our information, the restaurants Good evening Clara and The woodcock, located respectively in the city center and in the cemetery of Ixelles, both have declared bankruptcy. The lawyer for the two companies, Nicholas Ouchinsky (Lexlitis) confirmed the information to us and the bankruptcy judgment has been published to the Belgian Monitor. The two establishments were both under judicial reorganization by transfer of activity. Legal agents had been appointed to offer the restaurants for sale, but the Covid-19 crisis accelerated the movement.

After the pedestrian and the attacks …

Good evening Clara, located rue Dansaert in the center of Brussels, had to take shelter from his creditors through a judicial reorganization procedure (PRJ) following the work of the pedestrian and attacks who had struck Brussels in March 2016. A first rescue operation carried out in 2018 had not made it possible to put the establishment back on track.

During the second PRJ, launched at the beginning of December 2019, Saaid Barhdadi, which also operated La Bécasse and Le Tavernier (both at the Ixelles cemetery), had supported the operation. Nicholas Ouchinsky, the restaurant’s council, then asked for six months to try to find the best buyer. In the meantime, the Covid-19 has been there, undoing all efforts to do so.

Regarding The woodcock, This is an other story. In 2019, the establishment had lost an appeal lawsuit against the tax administration and had to face a recovery of more than 1.8 million euros. The case dated before the takeover of the restaurant by Saaid Barhdadi, but faced with the impossibility of paying such an amount, the restaurant operator had also opted for judicial reorganization in order to shelter from its creditors.
