Kyrgios: “That pisses me off”: Party egoist Zverev ignores corona isolation

Once again, tennis professional Alexander Zverev causes excitement: The 23-year-old celebrates a party with fashion designer Philipp Plein. After the controversial Adriatic tour, he recently repented with many corona infections. Because now nothing of it can be seen anymore, player Nick Kyrgios reacts angrily.

Apparently he is not as clean as he said: tennis professional Alexander Zverev is causing trouble again. And once again it’s about his ignorance of the corona crisis. The 23-year-old celebrates a party with fashion designer Philipp Plein and many other people in his home town of Monaco. Plein himself documented this in a video on Instagram, which has since been deleted.

Zverev had recently announced that he would be in isolation. The background to this was his participation in the highly controversial Adriatic tour that colleague Novak Djokovic had organized. At the tournament, several professionals were infected with the corona virus, such as Djokovic himself and his wife, as well as the Bulgarian top player Grigor Dimitrov. Djokovic’s trainer Goran Ivanisevic is just as sick as Croatia’s Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic.

“I am so sorry”

Djokovic said after becoming aware of his own infection and the other cases: “This is the new reality, we are still learning to cope with it and to live with it.” In another message on social media, he added: “I am very sorry that our tournament did damage. We were wrong, it was too early.”

Zverev also apologized: “I apologize to everyone I may have endangered by playing on this tour,” he wrote, apparently ruefully, in a statement on June 22. According to Zverev himself, the test had been negative, but as a precautionary measure, he wanted to isolate himself, since the virus incubation period is up to 14 days. But apparently he did not take his announcement so seriously.

“How selfish can you be?”

This behavior makes the top Australian player Nick Kyrgios angry. “I wake up and see more controversial things around the world. One that stood out was seeing Sascha Zverev again,” he said in a video on Instagram: “Man, how selfish can you be?”

If Zverev already had the audacity to have his management write a message announcing self-isolation and apologizing, please stay at home for 14 days, added Kyrgios: “That pisses me off.” The tennis world is becoming more and more selfish. Zverev and Kyrgios had had a public controversy about the Australian Open earlier this spring.

The renewed violation of the Corona rules could possibly harm Zverev. The best German tennis player plans to take part in the tournament in Berlin from July 13th. For the organizer, it would of course be the figurehead. But is he also if he behaves so inconsiderately? Officially, the organizers of the Berlin tournament want to wait and see whether they set restrictions for the professionals.

However, other tournament organizers, such as in Kitzbühl, initiated measures. For example, participants must submit quarantine and negative tests before starting. In New York they are said to be isolated in an airport hotel and not to have access to the city. From now on, Zverev should not appear in public again for strict compliance with a possible 14-day quarantine.
