KVIFF Group bought a majority stake in Aerofilms

Aerofilms is a Czech distributor of arthouse, ie independent films, which has since released 170 film titles to Czech cinemas since its inception in 2006. At the same time, it operates its own internet platform Aerovod, the film content of which will now also be used by the internet platform KVIFF.TV, which was launched at the beginning of this summer. Aerofilms will merge with KVIFF Distribution within the KVIFF Group. Their common goal will be to deepen the synergies between the festival and online and cinema distribution.

The group wants to make full use of the potential of the film festival, the city of Karlovy Vary and the Karlovy Vary region through innovative projects, film distribution and various events. In the future, the Karlovy Vary IFF and Aerofilms plan to move distribution to the entire region of Central and Eastern Europe.

Andrle will lead KVIFF.TV

KVIFF Group, the investment group Rockaway Capital and the group of managers of the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, includes the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival itself, the online video platform KVIFF.TV, the distribution company KVIFF Distribution and KVIFF Events, which organizes, among others, the music and film festival Variace. the Tady Vary film festival or the Pragueshorts Film Festival.

“I am pleased that there is a significant deepening of cooperation with KVIFF, which we have successfully tested on many levels in recent years. Combining festival, cinema or online activities under one roof will create a unique opportunity to offer a much larger range of independent film content. I am convinced that the connection between KVIFF Distribution and Aerofilms will benefit film audiences and filmmakers not only in the Czech Republic, “said Ivo Andrle, head of Aerofilms. He will remain in his position even after the acquisition, but at the same time he will become the new leader of the KVIFF.TV platform.

KVIFF Group’s investment in Aerofilms confirms the strategy that was born at the beginning of the year with the arrival of Rockaway Capital as a new strategic investor. Its goal was to use the potential of the festival and an experienced team led by President Jiří Bartoška and executive director Kryštof Mucha, and to significantly expand non-festival activities. The main one, however, remains the film festival itself, whose 56th year is scheduled for July 1-9, 2022.

The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival is one of the most important cultural and social events of the year in the Czech Republic. It is usually held at the beginning of July, this year its 55th year has been postponed to the end of August due to the coronavirus epidemic. Festivals in Cannes, Locarno, Venice and Berlin, for example, have the same status as Karlovy Vary. Led by a team led by actor Jiří Bartoška, who took over the event from the mid-1990s, the festival has emerged as a show combining cinematography of the West and the East.
