KV Mechelen fans help their own club with a solid injection of five million (!) Euros

KV Mechelen received a substantial financial injection, thanks to its own supporters. The current number six of the Jupiler Pro League has received five million euros through bonds that it offered to the fans.

The club reports this via the official channels. Malinwa released bonds a month and a half ago, allowing supporters to invest in their own club. The club hoped to raise five million euros over Christmas and also succeeded in doing so. “This is a great result,” said Frank Lagast, Managing Director. “Supporters or companies that want to contribute to the future of KV Mechelen will of course continue to be welcome. Of course we have other solutions than bonds for that.”

The director is referring to attracting external investors, who must provide another ten million euros. With this, KV Mechelen hopes to reduce its debt burden in the short term. This has risen in one year from almost four million euros to no less than 11.5 million euros, largely due to the construction of a new main stand. With the extra income, the club wants to build another stand behind the Kazerne and also hopes to realize a youth complex.

The Kakkers promoted this summer – after much legal fuss – to the highest level in Belgium and are still doing very well. The team of Lucas Bijker and Arjan Swinkels won 1-2 at Excelsior Mouscron on Boxing Day and is on track to qualify for the play-offs for the league title.
