Kuwaiti Prime Minister Affirms Exclusive Rights to Dura Offshore Area

Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Nawaf Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah said that no third country other than Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have rights to the Dura offshore area.

The Dura gas field is a Saudi-Kuwaiti joint venture. Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf said that a leading country has no place in this. The Prime Minister clarified these things in his speech at the 78th UN General Assembly yesterday.

Iran has previously claimed the Dura oil field. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister announced that Kuwait is considering an agreement to control navigation in the Khor Abdullah waterway. Kuwait is looking forward to good relations with neighboring countries.

But Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf said he was surprised by the verdict of Iraq’s Federal Supreme Court, which declared the maritime navigation agreement in Khor Abdullah unconstitutional. Kuwait has full right to protect rights in accordance with international resolutions and legal provisions.

He also demanded that the Iraqi government take necessary steps to resolve the shortcomings of the Supreme Court verdict. Kuwait also raised the issue of Palestine in the United Nations. The Palestinian people have been suffering for 75 years. The international community must come forward to prevent attacks and incursions. The Prime Minister of Kuwait said that Kuwait will fully support the Palestinian people and protect their rights.
