Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that “the alliance remains a tool sharpened for confrontation.” About it informs BBC.

“We have repeatedly said that the alliance itself is rather a tool sharpened for confrontation. This is not the alliance that ensures peace and stability,” explained Peskov.

Such a statement by a Kremlin spokesman followed after the US Department of Defense on Monday, April 11, called Moscow’s decision to invade Ukraine a “major strategic miscalculation”, which, apparently, will lead to further NATO expansion.

Representatives of the bloc expect that the two remaining non-bloc Scandinavian countries will join them in June.

Washington is expected to support the expansion of the list of alliance countries to 32 countries. US State Department officials said last week that discussions had taken place between NATO leaders and ministers from Helsinki and Stockholm.

Before the start of the active phase of the war in Ukraine, Russia demanded that the alliance continue non-expansion and return to the 1997 borders. However, the outbreak of a large-scale war in Ukraine contributed to the additional strengthening of the eastern flank of NATO and support for the course towards membership in the alliance of Sweden and Finland.

Previously Focus reported that representatives Finland and Sweden are ready to join NATO in the summer, thus the Russian army will be “stretched” along the border with Finland for 1,340 km.
