The Krefeld Pinguine are the first DEL relegated in 16 years. But they probably won’t give up just yet.
The Krefeld penguins can no longer be saved. The 1:6 (0:1, 1:3, 0:2) in the catch-up game at Adler Mannheim sealed the relegation of the two-time German champions from the German Ice Hockey League (THE). This means that the founding member no longer has a chance to leave the last place in the table in the final two main round games and is the first team to be relegated since 2006.
Michael Hoeffel (26th minute) scored the only guest goal in front of 6176 spectators. Ruslan Iskhakow (3rd and 23rd), Nigel Dawes (24th), Markus Eisenschmid (31st), David Wolf (45th) and Tim Wohlgemuth (59th) were successful for the favorites, who were coached for the first time by interim coach Bill Stewart. It was the 33rd loss in 54 games for the Penguins.

The German champions of 1952 and 2003 have consistently been top-notch since they were promoted to what was then the Bundesliga in 1991. The traditional club from the Lower Rhine has been plagued by financial and sporting problems for a long time. In the DEL this season, for the first time in 16 years, a relegated team will be determined. At that time, the Kassel Huskies had to play in the second division.
