Krazy Kat, the bookstore that takes wine from the cellar to the box

What could be more Bordeaux than the passions of Matthieu Saint-Denis, owner of the bookstore Krazy Cat located rue de la Merci, a few steps from the unmissable rue Sainte-Catherine? Wine, a love he cultivates in his free time, and comics, which he has made his profession. If he does not draw himself, he has the art of spotting the best and highlighting them in his bookshop – one of the largest in the South West entirely devoted to the 9th art.

Never short of ideas, Matthieu Saint-Denis has found how to combine his two hobbies in the same favorite object: a bottle of wine whose label will be designed each year by a local artist, in a limited edition, signed and numbered. This special edition, named Kat de Réaut 2018, will be launched for its second edition on the occasion of the preamble to Bordeaux Fête le Vin.

A free tasting in the presence of the winemaker, Yannick Evenou, is organized at the bookstore bar Krazy Cat (10 rue de la Merci, Bordeaux) on Thursday September 16 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. All accompanied by gifts, for the celebrations.

It was the Aquitaine artist from La Réole, Jean-Denis Pendanx, who illustrated the wine. A multi-award winning author and critically acclaimed graphic virtuoso, he is currently working with Matt Kindt, one of America’s greatest screenwriters. On this label, he wanted to pay tribute to the book that excited him the most in 2018, the vintage that was attributed to him: Golden age by Cyril Pedrosa.

The flamboyance of this medieval and feminist epic fascinated Jean-Denis, who, in return, evoked the strength and grace of the fallen princess, heroine of this book, against a background of golden and twilight forest, like the end of the harvest. .

Château Réaut, in Rions (Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux appellation), belongs to 500 co-owners united by the same philosophy of friendly and original sharing. Its red, white and rosé wines bear witness to an incredible taste and olfactory quality, several times rewarded by critics and competitions, while remaining accessible at very affordable prices.

Already classified as High Environmental Quality (HVE), Château Réaut is now on the path to organic certification. Co-owner since 2019 of vines on this estate, the bookstore Krazy Cat serves Château Réaut to the customers of its bar located in the heart of its premises and flourishing on its convivial terrace, taken by storm every day by comic book lovers.

Limited to 240 numbered copies, signed manually by the author, the bottle of Kat de Réaut 2018 is available at the bookstore Krazy Cat at the price of €14.90 to take away or €17.90 on site.

Each year, a new local author will illustrate a new label. In 2023, the 2019 vintage will be released with a tribute label to a comic strip published that year. Note that last year, in 2021, it was the Bordeaux author Alfred, Fauve d’Or in Angoulême, who illustrated the 2016 vintage.
