Naples

Kalidou Koulibaly just one more step to join Chelsea. He also sent a heartwarming farewell letter to Napoli.

With a year remaining on his contract, Koulibaly and Napoli decided to part ways this summer. Il Partenopei did not want to lose the Senegal defender in vain so they chose to sell him.

Chelsea finally became a club that was willing to pay 40 million euros like Napoli wanted. The two clubs have agreed, as well as Koulibaly who accepted the offer of a four-year contract plus a year extension.

The 31-year-old defender has been undergoing a medical in London since Thursday (14/7) and flew to the United States the day after to catch up with Chelsea players who are on their pre-season tour. This is the end of eight years of beautiful tales between Koulibaly and Napoli.

He has become a public favorite of Naples and the captain’s armband is proof of that. Don’t forget Koulibaly gave a farewell letter via his Instagram account.

“June 1 2014 is a day I will never forget: my arrival in Naples, the beginning of this sincere love story,” said Kalidou Koulibaly on his instagram account.

“I was still a timid young man, but had a great desire to prove to the world that I could do it.”

“Victories, defeats, joys, sorrows. Too many emotions shared together; impossible to express. But I always remember it in my heart and mind.”

“Both of my sons were born in Naples. I met people who will always be remembered in my life and made me and my family feel right at home, from start to finish.”

“Thanks to you, Napoli, because I can become the man I am today. Thank you to the club, the president, all the coaches, all my team-mates and the people who have sincerely worked with me over the years.”

“Thank you, Napoli and Neapolitans, for the love we have given each other over the years.”

Koulibaly joined from Genk in 2014 with a total of 317 appearances and 14 goals. He presented a Coppa Italia trophy and an Italian Super Cup.
