“A visible campaign aimed at the Romanian coast” / Chițac proposes the elimination of the parking tax at night, after the press wrote that tourists bypass Mamaia and because of parking

The mayor of Constanța, the liberal Vergil Chițac, declared on Friday, during an event he participates in in Mamaia, that there is a “visible campaign aimed at the Romanian coast”, answering questions from journalists regarding the small number of tourists who chose to spend holidays and vacations in Mamaia this season.

Also following the press reports that one of the reasons why tourists bypass Mamaia is the parking fee of almost 100 lei per day, Mayor Chitac said during the same event that the amount of the tax was presented “manipulatively” by the press , but then announced that it would propose to the Local Council to remove the tax during the night.

Thus, a day of parking in the resort will no longer cost 96 lei, but 56 lei. Also after the materials disseminated and published in the press, Mangalia City Hall completely eliminated the parking fee in the resorts on the south coast, which belong to the local administration in Mangalia.

  • “I link this to a visible campaign aimed at the Romanian coast. So not only Mamaia is targeted, but the entire Romanian coast. The decline in tourism is all over the country. Tourists have other countries to choose from (…). We also reach the parking lot in Mamaia. I resume briefly. It was presented manipulatively. Parking in Mamaia costs 96 lei. We did not ask ourselves the problem when we calculated the price that it will be used by the tourist. I thought they would park at hotels. That would have meant 500 lei per month by the hotel. Nothing was discussed about the effort made by the mayor’s office for the seaside to have good conditions “, said Vergil Chițac, on Friday, quoted by Constanța Day.
