Both in Kortrijk and in Knokke-Heist it is compulsory from Saturday to wear a mouth mask on the entire territory. The obligation applies to anyone over the age of 12 who is in the open air.

“There will be a general oral mask obligation in Kortrijk,” Mayor Vincent Van Quickenborne (Open VLD) wrote on Twitter on Friday. “As soon as you leave your house, put on your mask. Because we want to protect our residents. ”

The city also states that they want to use bubbles of ten (and not fifteen) throughout the territory. “These measures were decided on Friday morning at a special College and are now being presented to the provincial governor and the Flemish health inspection”, according to a press release.
There are some exceptions to the general respiratory mask obligation: during trips by car, motorbike, bicycle or scooter, during the exercise of a sports activity, during activities that require heavy physical exertion and for those who have a medical certificate that a mouth mask is not possible.
The proposal must now be presented to the governor and the Flemish health inspector. “The police will check on this, but with common sense. They will not check on a deserted road in the middle of the night. There are also exceptions: a person who is in the car, who is exercising, who performs heavy physical work or who has a medical certificate, must not wear a mask ”, according to the mayor of Kortrijk.
