After a first meeting with the liberal parties, it soon became apparent that it was not that easy. Open VLD chairman Egbert Lachaert and especially his MR colleague Georges-Louis Bouchez demanded more liberal accents and aroused the wrath of Bart De Wever. The preformers then beckoned to the Greens, to the chagrin of the liberals. But the greens also turned out not to be very keen.
Did the preformers try to play Greens and Liberals off against each other? Is the figure of MR Chairman Georges-Louis Bouchez problematic? Or do MR and Ecolo really think that the Community proposals of the preformers are a bridge too far? Many questions, few answers, but above all a tangle of problems. Now it is up to the king to untangle that tangle.
