Kobe Bryant’s widow to receive $28 million for sharing photo of tragic helicopter crash

Chris Chester, whose wife and daughter were killed in the crash, has settled with Los Angeles County for $19.9 million.

Photos of the crash were mostly shared among Los Angeles County Sheriff’s and fire officials. They were also shown to some of their spouses and, in one case, to a bartender at a bar.

“This is a success for Ms Bryant’s brave fight to bring to justice those involved in this grotesque act. She fought for her husband, daughter and all those whose families were treated with similar disrespect. We hope her victory in court and this settlement will put an end to this practice,” Vanessa Bryant’s attorney, Louis Li, said in a statement.

The tragic accident happened on January 26, 2020, when the helicopter crashed into the mountains west of Los Angeles in bad weather. Kobe Bryant went to a youth basketball game with his daughter Gianna and seven other people.

US federal safety officials blamed the crash on pilot error.
