Suara.com – The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported Monday that a deadly virus that can cause fever, stomach pain, vomiting, bleeding gums, skin rashes and pain behind the eyes, can now spread in between humans.
The virus identified as Chapare virus originally appeared in the countryside of the province of Chapare, Bolivia, back in 2004 and then disappeared. Then, it appeared again in 2019 with the case of five people.
Reported Live Science, while conducting a study on the virus in 2019, researchers found signs of the virus in rodents around infected people’s homes and farms. They suspect the pigmy rice mouse with little ears may be carriers of the virus.
However, this does not prove that these rodents were the source of the outbreak. In fact, it is not known whether rodents can infect humans.

According to the CDC’s official website, generally the arena of similar viruses are usually transmitted, either through direct or indirect contact, with infected rodent saliva, urine and feces.
“Examples of direct contact are the bites and scratches of infected rodents. While indirect is the inhalation of viruses mixed with air or ingesting food contaminated with urine, saliva or feces of infected rodents,” wrote the CDC.
Then, an infected person can transmit the disease to others through contact with body fluids, or inhaling aerosols (airborne particles) that are produced from infected patients.
“This can occur when an infected person undergoes hospital treatment procedures, such as during chest compressions, CPR, and intubation,” explains the CDC.
The CDC stressed that they still need a lot of research to understand how viruses look alike Ebola it spreads and causes disease, considering that so far only a few cases of Chapare virus have been recorded.

The thing to worry about is that experts believe the Chapare virus is not the type of virus that will cause a pandemic.
