Knowing the Difference Between Beser and Bedwetting

Beser and wet the bed including two problems that can be experienced by anyone from children to the elderly. Here’s the difference between bedwetting and beser.

Geriati Division of the Department of Internal Medicine, FKUI-RSCM, Siti Setiati explained that beser (overactive bladder atau OABis a urinary function disorder or urinary storage disorder in the bladder which is characterized by an unbearable, sudden urge to urinate followed by frequent urination.

In terms of frequency of urination, those who urinate can urinate 8 times or more in 24 hours. In fact, normal people are usually 4-5 hours or a maximum of 6 times a day.

Meanwhile, bedwetting (incontinence) is a condition when a person is unable to hold or control the flow of urine and this is generally a continuation of OAB.

“The big problem with bedwetting is not just the elderly, it’s cross-age. It’s not enough to wet the bed, if you wet the bed it’s a continuation,” said Siti in a virtual media education, Thursday (19/8).

According to Siti, both urinating and bedwetting cannot be considered a normal problem because it can reduce the quality of life, starting with sleep disturbances due to frequent awakenings at night to urinate, difficulty in activities, worrying about not being able to find the bathroom if you want to travel and so on.

In them, especially the elderly, frequent urination and rushing because they can’t hold it can increase the risk of falling.

On the other hand, diapers or pads are not considered a solution because they can cause new problems, namely rashes to blisters on the buttocks.

After knowing the difference between bedwetting and bedwetting, some of the causes of bedwetting and bedwetting can be corrected without medication, so that patients do not need to be in too much of a hurry to take medication. Medical personnel will definitely conduct a more thorough assessment first before giving the drug.

Before medication, overcoming the problem of bedwetting and bedwetting can be done in a number of ways, including:

– restriction of drinking intake
– do not drink 2 hours before bedtime
– reduce consumption of caffeine, alcohol, soft drinks, and sugary drinks
– stop smoking
– lose weight if previously overweight
– bladder retaining.
– Exercises for example that focus on the pelvic floor muscles can also be done.
