Knife, Karmøy | Serious incident of violence at McDonald’s in Karmøy

KARMØY: The police have cordoned off a large area at McDonald’s by Oasen after a serious incident of violence.

One person has been sent to hospital in an ambulance, says task leader Tore Frøyland-Jensen to Haugesund’s Avis. He cannot say anything about the condition of the person.

– We have blocked off an area, which was later expanded because we do not want anyone to destroy things here. Crime technicians are on their way, says the task leader.

– We have arrested a man we assume is the perpetrator, he says further.

Operations manager Jostein Reiestad in the South-West police district informed early on TV Haugaland that it was a knife incident. Frøyland-Jensen will not confirm for the time being whether a knife was used.

The police received a report at 1:45 p.m.

Sør-West police district has announced that they will provide more information in a press release.

Five police patrols

Haugesund’s Avis is on site. There are five patrol cars in the car park, and it is blocked off by an area in front of the restaurant, facing the road.

The police officers are currently interviewing witnesses.

– McDonald’s to follow up

Haugesunds Avis has been in contact with center manager Dag Einar Solberg at Oasen Storsenter.

– I am not aware of exactly what has happened, but preliminary information suggests that the episode has happened in close connection with McDonald’s, which owns its own premises and its own land, and in that sense is only a close and good neighbor of ours at Oasen and not part of the centre, says Solberg.

Thus, it is McDonald’s that must follow up the employees.

– If it has happened in connection with the centre, we follow up with a collection of employees and the occupational health service, but for now it looks like this applies to McDonald’s, says Solberg to Haugesund’s Avis.

Nor does he have the impression that the closures create major traffic challenges for the centre’s customers.
