Former musical director of the Nice Opera and Philharmonic Orchestra in the 1990s, Klaus Weise, died last weekend at the age of 86 at his home in Cagnes-sur-Mer (06) where he resided from 30 years. Trained in Germany, Klaus Weise was also music director of major institutions in Kiel, Freiburg, Dortmund, Seville and Halle.

Born in Pomerania in 1936, Klaus Wise he studied in Germany in Leipzig, Dresden and Berlin before starting as a conductor in Bern. In the late 1970s, he started as a music director in Freiburg, then in Kiel and at the head of the Dortmund Philharmonic. In 1991 he was appointed musical director of the Opéra de Nice and the Orchester Philharmonique de Nice, where he succeeded Berislav Klobucar at the request of the mayor of the time, Jacques Médecin. He held this position until 1997.

Klaus Wise he ended his career conducting the Halle Symphony Orchestra
After Nice, Klaus Wise he assumed the musical direction of the Seville Symphony Orchestra until 2000, before being appointed to the same position at the Opera and Staatskapelle in Halle (Germany), where he conducted his farewell concert in May 2007. The funeral of Klaus Weise will take place on Friday September 16 at 11 am at the Colomars crematorium near Nice.
