Klaas van der Eerden thought the role of sidekick was a no-brainer

Klaas van der Eerden did not think the role he had as a sidekick in Wietze de Jager’s radio programs was worth anything. This is what the comedian and presenter said in an interview with the AD.

“We made a program of four hours a day and that was quite tough,” he says about the morning show on Radio 538. “But what did I actually do? Especially filling the silences, it’s no big deal. I was mainly concerned with a possible silence that would occur and that I would have to fill it with a witty remark or a laugh.”

Still, Van der Eerden was left scratched in the soul by the sudden stop of that morning show, which was because De Jager “already started talking about a daddy’s day after eight months”. “I thought: we were going to make something of it together, right? But yes, three young children and a fourth on the way, that is also difficult to combine. And I think the listener also felt that at some point. Not much later, Wietze wanted to quit completely.”

On Tuesday, Van der Eerden’s management announced that he will return with his own show in theaters later this year, after avoiding it for ten years. The show is called ‘Staying Afloat’, and the radio adventure also features in it. “In the performance I first remain in that typical Radio 538 laugh for a long time when I start this sketch.”
