Rock Band Kiss Sells Catalog, Brand, and Intellectual Property

Swedish company Pophouse Entertainment Group has acquired the catalog, brand name, and intellectual property of the legendary American rock band, Kiss. The deal, estimated to be over $300 million, was announced on Thursday. Kiss, known for its hard rock genre, plans to continue its musical journey by partnering with Pophouse and furthering its reach to new generations.

Collaboration and Innovation in the Music Industry

Kiss has a history of partnering with Pophouse Entertainment Group, which was cofounded by Björn Ulvaeus of ABBA. When the band concluded their farewell tour in December, they amazed the audience by unveiling digitized avatars of themselves, created using cutting-edge technology developed in conjunction with Pophouse. The success of the “ABBA Voyage” show, which allowed fans to experience a full concert by the Swedish band through their digital avatars, further solidified the partnership.

Expanding Possibilities for Kiss

Per Sundin, CEO of Pophouse Entertainment Group, stated that with the acquisition, the company plans to offer Kiss fans a range of exciting experiences. Sundin revealed plans for a Kiss biopic, a documentary, and the utilization of Kiss avatars in a show, set to launch in the second half of 2027. The focus will be on creating a unique and innovative Kiss experience that distinguishes itself from the “ABBA Voyage” show.

Staying Committed to the Band’s Legacy

Kiss reassures fans that despite the acquisition, the band remains dedicated to its music and its fans. Gene Simmons, a cofounder and member of the band, emphasized the collaborative nature of the partnership and dispelled any concerns that Kiss would be less involved, stating, “We’re in the trenches with them. We talk all the time. We share ideas. It’s a collaboration. Paul (Stanley) and I especially, with the band, we’ll stay committed to this. It’s our baby.”

The End of Live Touring

Simmons also confirmed that with this deal, the era of live touring as Kiss, with their iconic makeup and stage performances, has come to an end. However, fans can continue to anticipate thrilling and immersive Kiss experiences through the creative endeavors that the band and Pophouse have in the pipeline.

Expanding Pophouse’s Portfolio

The acquisition of Kiss marks Pophouse’s second major investment beyond Swedish borders. Previously, they entered into a partnership with artist Cyndi Lauper, acquiring a majority share of her music and working on an immersive theater project that showcases her music and transports audiences back to the New York of her childhood.

An Innovative Vision for the Future

Pophouse Entertainment Group distinguishes itself by its aim to go beyond traditional music catalog acquisitions and explore new avenues to connect artists with their fans. Through their multimedia approach and commitment to collaboration, Pophouse aims to create unique and immersive experiences that bring music to life.
