King Willem-Alexander applies for subsidy for 7 tons per year for Kroondomein Het Loo | Inland

This concerns an amount of approximately 700,000 euros per year, which adds up to 4.2 million euros in six years. It is about one ton less annually than the crown domain now receives for nature management. According to steward Arno Willems, the total costs add up to well over five million. The difference is made up from activities on the site, such as the leasing of agricultural land, a restaurant and housing.

Grazing sheep

The public money must be used to graze sheep in the domain. People are also paid with it who will maintain and mow the forest. The vegetation of clay pits on the Kroondomein also deserves attention, according to the steward.

The money is not used to keep the game population in order, the money is already provided through the king’s annual budget.

Conditions

This year it was decided that the Crown Estate had to adhere to the same conditions as other areas if it wanted to be able to claim a certain subsidy. This means that a large part of the site should no longer be closed to the public for more than three months, but only a few days a year.

Willem-Alexander now waives that specific subsidy, but will stick to a number of others. They do not have wide opening as a condition, so that nothing changes in the opening of the Crown Estate. Just like now, some will be open all year round, some will be closed all year round (rest areas and ecoducts) and the majority will be open for about nine months.

Hunting during closure

The royal family uses the latter area to hunt during the closure, according to Prime Minister Rutte on average less than once a year. Shooting game is also part of keeping the animal population in the domain in good order.

Hunting is a family tradition of the Oranges. It recently emerged from Claudia de Breij’s book about Princess Amalia that the king had sent his daughter on a course to obtain a hunting license. As his successor, she will eventually have the Crown domain transferred from him. “You must have the knowledge in any case,” he had told his daughter. Whether she wants to do something with it later, she had to see by then.

State visit to Norway

Willem-Alexander already showed in the margins of the state visit to Norway that he intended to apply for a subsidy. That has been a fact since Friday. The subsidy application has been submitted to the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). The Ministry of Agriculture is responsible for allocating the money. Responsible Minister Schouten will inform the House of Representatives whether she will do so.
